Proverbs 1

Starting Proverbs, it almost seems as if King Solomon knew that his words of wisdom would become tried, true, and even a little trite for future generations. He encourages his readers to read these sayings and continue to grow wiser. Solomon’s motif throughout the book remains consistent. Listen to wisdom. Live in safety. Be at ease. Thrive without fear of harm.
Verses 2-3: “…for gaining wisdom and instruction; for understanding words of insight; for receiving instruction in prudent behavior, doing what is right and just and fair…”
Verse 5: “…let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance.”
Verse 7: “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.”
