Proverbs 18

Going so far into the book of Proverbs, we were bound to repeat topics that King Solomon had previously mentioned. One idea Solomon really drives home for his readers is how thoroughly righteousness permeates the believer’s lifestyle. He describes how a reader’s choices, words, and actions give evidence to her choice of wisdom over folly. Her humility leads to honor. Her ears listen for wisdom before she answers another. Her words fill her belly. Her tongue holds power over life and death. She brings favor from the Lord to her husband. From Solomon’s words, we learn to check our lives to see how we line up with the standards of wisdom.
Verse 10: “The name of the Lord is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.”
Verse 14: “The human spirit can endure in sickness, but a crushed spirit who can bear?”
Verse 15: “The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge, for the ears of the wise seek it out.”
