Cultivating a Thankful Spirit: Day Nine

“Enter his gates with thanksgiving;
Go into his courts with praise.
Give thanks to him and bless his name.”

Psalm 100:4

When considering the messages I wanted to bring to our thankfulness posts, this verse kept ringing in my head. Echoes of this verse repeat throughout Scripture, creating an image of ancient Israelites and modern believers bringing attitudes of thankfulness and praise into their moments of worship before God. Over the next few days, I hope to explore these themes in greater depth — specifically how they are different and similar, as well as examples of their use in both the Old and the New Testaments.

To begin with, I want to provide these definitions of our terms:

• thankfulness — to acknowledge God’s goodness
• praise — to worship, commend, or give honor to
• worship — the appropriate response to God’s self-revelation
